Smile! It’s your Best A$$et
We just landed a cool gig doing vinyl furniture repair at Dave and Buster’s for next several months. Yay! It’s a fun place, and the people who work there are really friendly and easy to work with.
While almost everything at Dave and Buster’s is designed to catch your attention with dazzling lights, cutting edge video, or whiz-bang sound effects, the item that caught my eye is in the kitchen.
It’s a large framed poster that says, “Smile! It’s your Best A$$et.”
I like the reference to Dale Carnegie’s principle of smiling. It’s a free way to greatly improve your success in life. The best part though is the picture of Lotney ‘Sloth’ Fratelli from the movie, “Goonies.” This is one of my favorite ’80′s movies, and you can plainly see that a smile makes even this monster a little more lovable.
Dan Lieberman, General Manager, told me the only problem with the sign is that most of his staff is too young to remember the movie. Ahhh, youth!
A smile is nature’s best antidote for discouragement.
It brings rest to the weary,
Sunshine to those who are frowning,
And hope to those who are hopeless and defeated.
A smile is so valuable that it can’t be bought,
Begged, borrowed, or taken away against your will.
You have to be willing to give a smile away
Before it can do anyone else any good.
So if someone is too tired or grumpy to flash you a smile,
Let him have one of yours anyway.
Nobody needs a smile as much
As the person who has none to give.
Have a great week!
